At Henry Schein, we believe in the power of community and the transformative impact that collective efforts can have on the lives of individuals. As a company committed to corporate social responsibility, we actively engage in a range of local community projects, working tirelessly to create positive change and support those in need.
Our dedication to making a difference extends beyond the boundaries of our business operations. We understand that thriving communities are built on a foundation of education, health, empowerment, and compassion. Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, we strive to uplift local communities and contribute to the well-being of individuals and families.
By leveraging our expertise, resources, and passionate team members, we are proud to be involved in a diverse array of community projects. From supporting education and career development to promoting oral health and hygiene, fighting food insecurity, and empowering individuals with special educational needs and disabilities, our initiatives aim to address pressing societal challenges and make a positive difference in our communities.
Education and career development: inspiring future generations
Through partnerships with schools like Mid-Kent College and Bradfield Academy, we have participated in career fairs and open evenings, where our team members have engaged with students, sharing insights about various career paths and apprenticeship opportunities within our organisation.
We also collaborate with Forward2Employment, which supports young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Medway, Kent, and the South East. Through internships and vocational training programs at our distribution warehouse in Gillingham, we provide practical experience, mentorship, and valuable life skills, paving the way for these individuals to find permanent and purposeful employment with us.
Through our partnership, we have welcomed interns from Forward2Employment into our distribution warehouse in Gillingham.
Our HR team also participates in Forward2Employment's open evenings, engaging with prospective interns and their parents. By showcasing the diverse range of roles within our distribution centre and highlighting the success stories of previous interns, we inspire young adults with SEND to pursue their career paths with confidence.
Promoting health and wellness: nurturing smiles and supporting wellbeing
Good health and wellbeing is vital when building strong and thriving communities. We are committed to promoting oral health, supporting access to essential hygiene products, and addressing food insecurity to ensure a healthier and happier future for all.
Through partnerships with organisations like the Dental Wellness Trust and Dentaid, we have provided free oral health screenings and educational programs to children in local schools. By offering dental checks, tips on proper oral hygiene, and necessary supplies, we aim to instil healthy habits and empower children to take care of their teeth, especially among those who may not have had access to dental care before.
Additionally, we have collaborated with The Hygiene Bank, a nationwide organisation dedicated to tackling hygiene poverty. Through our partnership, we have donated personal and household hygiene products, supporting individuals and families in need across the UK.
Our team of generous TSMs (Team Schein Members) has made substantial donations totalling over 723kg of personal and household hygiene products.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee volunteers also sorted and packed the items into tailored packages for different community members. These packages were then distributed to various local causes.
We have had the privilege of working directly with The Hygiene Bank Medway, making significant contributions to the Nigerian Community Association (Kent and Medway) and Warren Wood Primary Academy. The donated hygiene products provide support to refugees, domestic abuse victims, deprived families, and others who are in immediate need of assistance.
Supporting local schools and underserved children
Every child deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their circumstances. To prove our belief in this, Henry Schein is dedicated to supporting local schools and underserved children, ensuring they have the necessary tools and resources for a successful education.
Through initiatives like the ‘Back to School’ program, we partner with schools such as Bradfields Academy and organisations like Barnados Ireland to provide backpacks filled with essential school supplies. By equipping students with pens, notebooks, folders, and other necessary items, we aim to alleviate the financial burden on families and empower children to approach their studies with confidence and enthusiasm.
We understand that access to quality education is key to unlocking future opportunities, and we are proud to be a part of creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children.
Addressing food insecurity: supporting local food banks
Food insecurity is not something anyone should have to live with, so we are doing what we can to address it in our local communities. We are dedicated to making a positive impact by supporting local food banks and organisations that provide vital assistance to those in need.
Through our global company initiative focused on Food Insecurity, our team of dedicated TSMs donated a range of food items to help support local communities. In collaboration with organisations like the Derby City Mission, Gillingham Street Angels, Trussell Trust, and St Vincent de Paul Society, we strive to ensure that everyone has access to food.
Our TSMs have also participated in food drives and donations, working with local food banks and organisations like the Trussell Trust and Gillingham Street Angels. By supporting these initiatives, we aim to alleviate food insecurity and provide nourishment to those who are most vulnerable in our communities.
